3 steps of ethics

1. recognize that there is an ethical problem

2. deliberate

3. decide on a course of action

Beneficence

take positive steps to help others, not merely refrain from harmful acts

Nonmaleficence

abstain from causing harm from others

Autonomy

respect for person, self-rule free from controlling interference by others and limitations that prevent meaningful choice

Justice

fair, equitable, and appropriate treatment in light of what is due or owed to persons

Ethical deliberation - GRACE

G - get the whole story

R - recognize obligations

A - accept responsibilities/avoid over-reaching, prejudice, and bias

C - consider consequences

E - evaluate character
