Accommodation
The ability of the eye to change its focus from distant to near objects by altering the shape of the lens.
Audiometry
A test that measures hearing acuity using controlled sound intensities projected to one ear at a time.
Caloric Stimulation Test
A test that assesses vestibular reflexes by instilling warm or cool water/air into the ear.
Central Vision
The part of vision that allows for the perception of fine detail and color discrimination.
Conductive Hearing Loss
A type of hearing loss that occurs due to interference in the transmission of sound waves to the inner ear.
Conjunctivitis
Inflammation of the conjunctiva, often resulting in redness and discharge.
Decibels
A unit of measure for the intensity of sound, indicating its loudness.
Electronystagmography
A precise method for evaluating vestibular function using electrodes to monitor eye movements.
Near Point
The closest point at which an object can be seen clearly by the eye.
Nystagmus
Involuntary oscillating movement of the eyeball.
Ophthalmoscopy
An examination technique to visualize the fundus or interior of the eye.
Otoscopic Examination
A visual inspection of the external acoustic canal and tympanic membrane using an otoscope.
Proptosis
An abnormal protrusion of the eyeball.
Ptosis
Drooping or falling of the upper eyelid.
Refraction
The bending of light rays as they pass through the eye structures.
Rinne Test
A tuning fork test to determine conductive and sensorineural hearing loss.
Romberg Test
A test to evaluate balance by monitoring a person's ability to sustain their position.
Sensorineural Hearing Loss
Hearing impairment resulting from damage to the inner ear or the auditory nerve.
Tonometry
A method used to measure intraocular pressure to screen for glaucoma.
Visual Acuity
The clarity or sharpness of vision, often measured with a Snellen chart.
Visual Field Examination
A test to measure peripheral vision and detect gaps in the visual field.
