What is eutrophication?
The process in which organic matter and nutrients slowly build up in a body of water.
What type of ecological succession occurs in an area that has no soil?
Primary Succession.
What are pioneer species?
The first organisms to grow in an uninhabited area, such as lichens.
What is secondary succession?
Succession that occurs in areas that have been disturbed but still have soil.
What are climax species?
Well-adapted species of plants found throughout a mature ecosystem.
How does urbanization negatively impact ecosystems?
It reduces the size of habitats, causing unsafe situations for animals and can lead to deforestation.
What is point-source pollution?
Pollution that comes from one identifiable source, such as oil spills.
What does stewardship refer to in environmental science?
The careful and responsible management of resources.
Name a consequence of deforestation.
It can lead to higher temperatures in the affected area.
What are the three Rs for conserving natural resources?
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
