there is not a causal connection between the processes of social change, but they influence eachother

Sometimes processes are contradictory

Welfare state:

• Has to emancipate women

• Government has to cut costs on care due to ageing → women take up this role

Other processes of social change and the welfare state

• Globalisation

• Europeanisation

• Diversity

• Climate change

Europeanisation

Labour markets are harmonized, but welfare states are different. We have one labour market, but different welfare state policies, why? → there are some examples from this already

Diversity

Homosexuals are not treated the same in the welfare state, getting someones pension after your partner dies. How does the welfare state with multiple parent families

Climate cahnge

Risk: it will effect groups in different ways. Will this become a sixth pillar for the welfare state
