Consciousness
Our subjective awareness of ourselves and our environment
Non consciousness
mental processes, like digestion or driving a car, that operate outside conscious awareness and can't be easily accessed through introspection
Preconscious
Outside of awareness but can be brought up. The name of your childhood friend; it's not in your immediate awareness, but you can readily recall it if prompted.
Circadian rhythm
Our body’s biological clock, regular bodily rhytms that occur on a 24-hour cycle
Jet lag
tiredness due to the change of time zone
Seasonal affective disorder
a type of depression that occurs during certain times of the year, typically in the fall and winter months (bc you don’t get enough sunlight)
Insomnia
Problems with falling or staying asleep
REM sleep behavior disorder
When REM does not occur; instead, twitching, talking, or even kicking or punching may occur, often acting out one’s dream
Obstructive sleep apnea
Difficult breathing during sleep and repeated momentary awakenings
Narcolepsy
uncontrollable sleep attacks. The affected person mayb lapse directly into REM sleep, often at inopportune times
Sleepwalking
a sleep disorder where a person engages in complex behaviors while still asleep

Sleep stage 1
This is experienced as falling to sleep and is a transition stage between wake and sleep.

Most dreams occur here. Breathing, heart rate and brain wave activity quicken.
