What is a variable?
A symbol, usually a letter, that represents a quantity that can change or vary. For example, in the expression 3x + 5, x is the variable.
What is an algebraic expression?
A mathematical phrase that can contain numbers, variables, and operation symbols (like +, -, times, div), but no equality or inequality signs. Example: 2y^2 - 7
What is the Order of Operations (PEMDAS)?
The standard order to perform mathematical operations to ensure a single, consistent result: Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication and Division (from left to right), Addition and Subtraction (from left to right). Often remembered by the acronym PEMDAS or Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally.
What is an equation?
An equation is a mathematical statement that shows two expressions are equal. It always contains an equals sign (=). Example: 2x + 1 = 9
