Ophthalmic System
The system related to the eyes and vision, including various components such as eyelids, pupils, and optic nerves.
Pupil
The adjustable opening in the center of the eye that controls the amount of light entering the eye.
Iris
The colored part of the eye that helps control the size of the pupil.
Sclera
The white outer coating of the eyeball that provides structure and protection.
Lens
The transparent structure within the eye that helps focus light on the retina.
Cornea
The clear front surface of the eye that refracts light.
Conjunctiva
The thin membrane that covers the front of the eye and lines the eyelids.
Extraocular Eye Muscles
Muscles responsible for the movement of the eye.
Retina
The light-sensitive layer of tissue at the back of the eye that converts light into neural signals.
Optic Nerve
The nerve that transmits visual information from the retina to the brain.
Vision Impairments
Any type of visual problem that affects the ability to see clearly.
Pupillary Light Reflex
The eye's response to light, assessing the function of the optic (CN II) and oculomotor (CN III) nerves.
Accommodation
The ability of the eye to focus on near objects, mainly mediated by the oculomotor nerve.
Central Visual Acuity
The clarity or sharpness of vision assessed at a specific distance, typically using a Snellen chart.
Peripheral Vision
The ability to see objects outside of your direct line of sight.
Ophthalmoscope Examination
An examination technique used to view the fundus (interior surface) of the eye.
Health Promotion
Activities aimed at improving health and preventing diseases through education and collaboration.
