Reaction Rates
The speed at which reactants are converted into products in a chemical reaction.
Catalysts
Substances that speed up chemical reactions without being consumed in the process.
Average Rate of Reaction
Calculated from the change in quantity of reactants or products over time.
Isotopes
Atoms of the same element with the same atomic number but different mass numbers.
Covalent Bonding
Formed when two positive nuclei attract a shared pair of electrons.
Diatomic Molecules
Molecules that consist of two atoms, for example, H2, O2, N2.
Ionic Bonds
Electrostatic attractions between positive and negative ions.
Molality (m)
The number of moles of solute per kilogram of solvent.
pH Scale
A measure of how acidic or alkaline a solution is, ranging from 0 to 14.
Neutralisation
A chemical reaction between an acid and a base producing salt and water.
Electrochemical Cell
A device that generates electrical energy from chemical reactions.
Polymers
Large molecules made up of repeating subunits called monomers.
Homologous Series
Family of compounds with similar chemical properties and same functional group.
Half-Life
The time required for half of the radioactive nuclei in a sample to decay.
Standard Solution
A solution with a known concentration used in titrations.
