SPICE
Social, Political, Interaction with environment, cultural, and economics. Usually just used to categorize information about a society.
Empire
A nation becomes an empire when they acquire tons of surrounding land, usually by force. Different from kingdoms. Empires conquer other foreign peoples.
State
A state is an established nation. The process of this state becoming prosperous includes consolidation and legitimizing.
Consolidation
Taking power from other empires and claiming it. Usually by military force.
Legitimize
Legitimizing the ruler, conveying to subjects that they are in charge. A way rulers do this is by building huge temples and stuff.
Bureaucracy
Another word for government. Made up of advisors and officials who help a main ruler govern an empire.
Decentralized
A governing style where power is spread out to local rather than an all encompassing national power. Kinda like states have their own rules as well.
Artisanal
Goods such as textiles, metalworks, pottery, and woodworking sold by craftspeople before the Industrial Revolution.
Manufactured
Goods that are mass produced with machinery.
Egalitarian
Belief that all humans are equal, and should be treated as such in ways social, political, and economic. Ex is feminism.
Patriarchy
System or government where men hold primary positions of power, or just at a general advantage. Ex is Taliban.
Polytheism
Religions that believe in multiple gods
Monotheism
Religions that believe in one god only.
Diaspora
Distribution of people from a certain place around the world.
Deity
Supernatural beings who are typically the centerpiece in religions
Urbanization
The process of people moving to larger cities usually for work
Meritocracy
A system where people’s quality of work or skills can get them in better positions.
Commercial
Anything having to do with the buying or selling or goods.
Missionaries
People sent to other religions for the sole purpose of spreading their religion.
Coercive labor
Labour forced upon people using fear and threats. Slavery is a form of coercive labor.
Cultural diffusion
The spread of cultural ideas among different.. cultures.
