Geon
A geometric unit out of which different objects are built, proposed as a key concept in object recognition.
Binocular summation
The process of combining signals from both eyes to enhance depth perception.
Occlusion
A monocular depth cue where one object partially blocks another, helping to determine relative distance.
Disparity
The difference between the two retinal images of the same object, used as a cue for depth perception.
Fusiform face area
A region in the brain that is specialized for recognizing faces, indicating its unique processing compared to other objects.
Motion parallax
A depth cue based on the fact that objects closer to an observer appear to move faster than those farther away.
Stereopsis
The perception of depth produced by the brain's integration of two slightly different views from each eye.
Accommodation
The process by which the eye's lens changes shape to focus on objects at different distances.
Illusion of depth perception
An effect where two-dimensional images are perceived as three-dimensional due to specific cues like size or perspective.
Ponzo illusion
An optical illusion where two horizontal lines appear to be different lengths due to converging lines that create a sense of depth.
