why do people now live longer in the uk
improved medical understanding
government initiatives- cutting down on smoking and obesity, gym culture, diet interests
why do women live longer than men
in 1800 IN SWEDEN- the life expectancy at birth was 33 for women and 31 for a man
this is possibly due to biology/lifespan
however could be due to the fact women do less demanding work and are less likely to damage their bodies (with drinking, smoking or overeating)
japan’s life expectancy
women- 86.8 (compared 83 in uk)
men- 80.5 (compared to 79 in the uk)
there is a healthier culture in japan- for example they exercise more wne have a healthier diet (an island country creates a sea food based diet)
how does class impact life expectancy
Walker- class should be closely considered as people in the poorest areas of england die 7 years earlier on average than those in rich areas
men in unskilled work or routine jobs are 3x more likely to die before they are 65 compared to those in professional/managerial roles
the national food strategy
escape junk food cycle to protect the NHS
reduce diet related inequalities (poor people = poor diet)
make the best use of our land
create a long term shift in our food culture
e.g. breakfast clubs, trial a community eat well program/ educate poorer areas
