Metacom’s War

caused by the population growth in colonial cities and colonies so they had to move westward through expansion (westward expansion and encroachment of English colonists pushing out Indigenous people)

rejection of conversion to Christianity and Catholicism caused tensions: Chief Metacom started if after coming from driving out colonists trying to steal their land, they offended first then British launched counteroffensive and decimated tribes and enslaved Indigenous people

First Great Awakening

New Christian movement led by charismatic preachers that promoted a more personal and emotional Christianity: Transcended social class, denomination, and identity: questioned authority of established churches and popularized denominations: focuses on peoples individualism and individual relationship with God

Anglicization

the want to become more and more like England and the English Church: English models for Church and State were repeated again in the colonies

The Enlightenment

brought the idea that we can understand the universe through reason, investigation, research and not just scientific but also political thought.
