Amines
An important class of compounds found in pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals and materials.
Condensation Reactions
Reactions between amines and aldehydes and ketones; the product imines are also known as Schiff bases.
Reductive Amination
A reaction used to generate amines with an additional substituent. Aldehydes are more reactive than ketones in the condensation reaction.
Aldehydes
More reactive than ketones in the condensation reaction.
Schiff Base
The product of condensation reactions between amines and aldehydes/ketones.
TLC (Thin Layer Chromatography)
Used to monitor the reaction in the experiment.
UV/Vis and phosphomolybdic acid stain
Used to visualize the TLC plate.
Biomolecules with Nitrogen
A major class of biomolecules that are prepared via reductive amination.
