Cisternal Maturation Model
The Golgi cisternae mature from cis to trans, enzymes are transferred between cisterne and the cargo does not move relative to the cisterna it’s in
Vesicular Transport Model
The cisternae are static, and the enzymes stay in each cisterna. The cargo moves through cisternae through tubules and vesicles.
Function of cis-Golgi
Remodeling of N-glycans
1) Removal of 3 Mannose by Mannosidase 1 and 2
Function of medial Golgi
One GlcNAc added to N-glycan (transferred from UDP-GlcNAc), two more mannose resides removed
