Diffusion of Innovation
A theory that explains how new ideas are introduced and adopted in a society.
Innovation
Something new, characterized by advantage, trialability, ease of use, and observable results.
Communication Channels
The means of sharing information, including mass media and interpersonal communication.
Innovation-Decision Process
The steps involved in adopting an innovation: knowledge, persuasion, decision, implementation, and confirmation.
Social Ecological Model
A theoretical concept where behavior is influenced by factors at multiple levels.
Intrapersonal Level
Personal characteristics like knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs that affect behaviors.
Interpersonal Level
Relationships with relatives, friends, and peers that influence behaviors.
Institutional Level
Rules, regulations, and policies of structures that affect behavior (e.g., sick time, mandated vaccines).
Community Level
Behavioral norms and community characteristics (e.g., unemployment rates, safe open spaces).
Societal Level
Economics, social policies, social/cultural norms, and attitudes that shape behavior.
Social Capital Theory
People invest in social relations with the expectation of a return.
Networks
The people we know and the connections between them.
Relationships
How we know the people we know; bonding, bridging, and linking.
