won election of 1932, distant cousin of Teddy Roosevelt. nominated for vice in 1920 election- lost to Harding/Coolidge. stricken with polio in 1921, lost use of legs. promised to repeal prohibition during the election process. inherits the greal depression

Twenty first Amendment

passed dec. 5th 1933. allowed alc again unless a state wanted to stay dry. opened up tons of jobs.

FDIC Federal Deposit Insurance Association

gov guaranteed your deposits up to 2500

AAA Agricultural Adjustment Act

tells farmers how much they can plant and pays them subsides for leaving land fallow

TVA Tennessee Valley Authority

fed gov builds 25 dams along the Tennessee, cumberland, and tributary rivers. gave low cost electricity, prevents flooding, boosts tourism, jobs.

CCC Civilian Conservation Corps

gave a bunch of young men low-wage hard-work jobs. like boot camp. built roads, trails, bridges, dams, schools.

Liberty League

led by DuPont family, tried to drum up opposition to FDR and new deal, didn’t work, made ppl like FDR more and hate rich ppl more.

Huey Long

supported of FDR wanted him to do more, built roads, schools, hospitals, revised tax codes, distributed free textbooks, lowered utility rates and more in Louisiana. advocated for a program of wealth redistribution. “share our wealth

Social Security Act

made after FDRs reelection in 1936, all Americans put into pension program, seniors get 15$ a month. for limited time so will presently destitute. also establishes fed aid to disabled ppl and dependent children.

Works Progress Administration

another relief program led by Harry Hopkins. employed over 2 mil ppl per year. renovated like 110,000 buildings, build 500k miles of roads, 100k bridges, 600 airports.
