Cell
A cell is the smallest unit of life and makes up all living things. Different cells have specific roles like providing energy.
Organelles
Is a subcellular structure that has one or more specific jobs to perform in the cell.
Nucleolus
Surrounds the nucleus and stores the DNA
Nucleus Membrane
Surrounds and protects the nucleus
Golgi Body
Acts as the cells post office and sorts and transport proteins.
Ribosomes
Responsible for protein sythesis and is helped by the rough endoplasmic reticulum
Lysosomes
Acts as the janitor of the cell and gets rid of waste
Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum
Modifies, change and synthesis proteins and
Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum
Makes fat and detoxes chemicals in the cell
Cytoplasm
Gel like fluid that supports organelle and gives the cell its shape
Mitochondria
Known as the powerhouse of the cell and break down glucose into Adenosine Triphosphate (energy)
Vacuole
Acts as a storage for water, nutrients and waste
Cell Membrane/Cell Wall
Cell membrane is for animal and plants, cell wall is for plants. A double layer wall that controls what enters and leaves the cell
Chloroplasts (Plants)
Chloroplasts are organelles in plant cells where photosynthesis occurs, using light energy to make glucose from carbon dioxide and water.
