ir verbs that have an e:i stem change in the present tense also have a stem change in the preterite

Pedir (Ella pide un café)

Verbs that end in ~car, ~gar, and ~zar have a spell change in the 1st person YO form

Buscar=qu=Busqué, llegar=gu-llegué, and empezar=c=empecé

Creer, Leer, and oír have spell changes and an accent in every form except the ellos,ella,ustedes form

CREER= creí, creíste, creyó, creímos, creísteis, and creyeron.

LEER= Leí, leíste, leyó, leímos, leísteis, and leyeron.

OIR= oí, oíste, oyó, oímos, oísteis, oyeron

Acabar de + [infinitive] is used to say that something has JUST occurred. Acabar is in its PRESENT tense in this construction.
