Interaction: Statins and Grapefruit

Effect: Muscle pain and aches

Interaction: Antiplatelet drugs (Clopidogrel) NSAIDs (Aspirin Celecoxib Ibuprofen) Anticoagulant drugs (Warfarin Heparin)

Effects: all of these medications increase the risk of bleeding therefore combining them greatly increases risk of bleeding

Interaction: Multivalent ions (calcium, magnesium, iron, also in milk and antacids) + Levothyroxine Fluoroquinolones (Ciprofloxacin Moxifloxacin) Bisphosphonates (Alendronic acid {fosamax} Pamidronate {aredia}) Tetracyclines (Tetracycline Minocycline)

Effects: reduces the effectiveness of these drugs

Interaction: Nitrates and PDE5 inhibitors

Effects: increased risk of severe hypotension

Interaction: ACE inhibitors (Ramipril Lisinopril) + Potassium-elevating drugs

Effects: increase the risk of hyperkalemia

Interaction: Ritonavir + Protease inhibitors Lopinavir

Effects: lower the needed dose of protease inhibitors

Interaction: Beta-blockers + Calcium channel blockers

Effects: increases the risk of heart failure and a slow heart rate (bradycardia)

Effect: increases the risk of hypertensive crisis (basically high BP --> stroke)

Interaction: Omeprazole + Clopidogrel

Effect: reduces the antiplatelet effects of clopidogrel.

Interaction: Macrolides + Statins

Effect: increase the risk of adverse effects of statins

Interaction: Sulfonylureas, Metformin, Thiazolidinediones

Effect: increases the risk of hypoglycemia

Interaction: Phenytoin (dilantin) + Warfarin Estrogens (Progestogens)

Effect: reducing their clinical effects.

Interaction: Corticosteroids + Beta-2 agonists Albuterol Terbutaline

Effect: increase the risk of hypokalemia

Interaction: Alpha-blockers + Antihypertensive drugs

Effect: dangerously low blood pressure.
