frequency distribution
one of the most common procedures for organizing a set of data
frequency distribution
organized tabulation of the number of individuals located in each category on the scale of measurement
frequency distribution
takes a disorganized set of scores and places them in order from highest to lowest, grouping together individuals who all have the same score
frequency distribution
allows the researcher to see "at a glance" the entire set of scores
frequency distribution
shows whether scores are generally high or low, whether they are concentrated in one area or spread out across the entire range
frequency distribution
generally provides an organized picture of the data
frequency distribution
allows you to see the location of any individual score relative to all other scores in the set
set of categories / record of frequency in categories
frequency distribution shows 2 elements < (2/)
frequency distribution
presents a picture of how the individual scores are distributed on the measurement scale
frequency distribution table
presents measurement scale by listing the diff measurement categories (X values) in a column from highest to lowest
x values
these in a frequency distribution table represent the scale of measurement, NOT THE SET OF SCORES
frequency
can be used to find the total number of scores in the distribution
∑f = N
FORMULA
frequency to total scores
distribution, raw score
2 ways to present data: < (2,)
distribution
set of scores arranged for recording or study
frequency distribution
scores listed alongside the number of times each score occurred
raw score
straightforward, modified accounting of performance, usually numerical
simple frequency distribution
scores listed but not grouped
grouped frequency distribution
more convenient, easy-to-read summary of data, however it loses information
class intervals
these grouped replace the actual scores in grped frequency distribution
decrease zero value, when difficult to visualize shape, when difficult to have central tendency
why group? < (3,)
frequency distribution
can be used to describe the position of an individual within the set
x values
raw scores/individual scores
grouped frequency distribution
presenting groups of scores rather than individual values
