What does Mitosis result in?
Cell division resulting in body cells.
What does Meiosis result in?
Cell division resulting in sperm and egg cells (gametes).
What does it mean for a cell to be diploid (2n)?
Having two sets of chromosomes (one from mom, one from dad).
What is Interphase?
The phase where cells duplicate their chromosomes before mitosis or meiosis.
What does PMAT stand for?
Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, Telophase
What happens during Prophase in Mitosis?
Chromosomes condense and become visible.
What is unique about Prophase I in Meiosis?
Chromosomes pair up with their homologous pairs and crossing over occurs.
What happens during Metaphase in Mitosis?
Chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell in a single file line.
What happens during Metaphase I in Meiosis?
Chromosomes are still in pairs in the middle of the cell.
What happens during Anaphase in Mitosis?
The chromatids are pulled away to opposite sides of the cell.
What happens during Anaphase I in Meiosis?
The chromosomes, not chromatids, are pulled away to opposite sides of the cell.
What happens during Telophase in Mitosis and Telophase I in Meiosis?
New nuclei are forming on opposite sides to make two new cells.
