Homeostasis
The ability to maintain a steady state regardless of external environment.
Endocrine System
Glands, tissues, and organs that regulate bodily functions via hormones.
Stimulus
Any external factor that elicits a response in an organism.
Negative Feedback
A process that inhibits a response by reducing the initial stimulus.
Positive Feedback
A process that reinforces a stimulus to produce an even greater response.
Neuroendocrine Pathway
A pathway where nerve signals are converted into hormones, affecting target cells.
Oxytocin
A hormone that triggers milk release in mammals during suckling.
Glucagon
A hormone secreted by the pancreas that promotes the breakdown of glycogen and release of glucose into the blood.
Tropic Hormones
Hormones secreted by the anterior pituitary that target other glands.
Gibberellins
Plant hormones involved in regulating growth processes such as germination.
Auxin
A plant hormone that promotes cell elongation and coordinates growth responses.
Abscisic Acid (ABA)
A plant hormone that antagonizes growth hormones and promotes stress tolerance.
Ethylene
A plant hormone that mediates responses to mechanical stress and ripening.
Cytokinins
Plant hormones that stimulate cell division and differentiation.
Signal Transduction Pathway
The process by which a cell converts an external signal into a functional response.
Tropism
Any response resulting in the curvature of plant organs toward or away from a stimulus.
Feedback Regulation
The process by which the output of a system affects its input, often in a loop.
