What is a Homologous Structure
Parts of the body that are similar in structure (same origin) but have different functions
Why does Homologous structure occur?
It happens because of Divergent Evolution
What is a vestigial structure?
It is a structure that has been reduced in size and function hut nay once have been complete and functional
What is DNA Evidence
It is considered as species that share a closer evolutionary relationship, it also shows a higher degree of similarity in their DNA
What is embryological development?
It is when embryos of different species develop in very similar ways, it suggest that there is a common ancestor
How is a fossil record considered as evidence?
It gives us a time scale of how long evolution takes, it also shows us similarities between extinct animals and animals alive today
What are the two models of speed of evolution?
Gradualism and Punctuated Equilibrium
What is gradualism?
It is changes that happen slowly over a long period of time, rather than suddenly
What is punctuated equilibrium?
This model suggest that species often experienced long periods of little or no significant change(equilibrium) later punctuated by short periods of rapid change
Why does punctuated equilibrium happen?
Mass extinction event, migration, Isolation of small populations
