Possession
Refers to whether a tenant still has a connection to the rental unit and thus a legal right to occupy it.
Joint Tenancy
A tenancy where more than one person signs a lease and rents a unit as a group, making each tenant 'jointly and severally' liable for the entire rent.
Notice of Termination
A formal notice given by a landlord or tenant to terminate the tenancy agreement, which requires specific procedures to be followed.
Landlord's Duty to Repair
A landlord's obligation to provide and maintain rental properties in a good state of repair, fit for habitation.
Vital Services
Essential services such as hot or cold water, fuel, electricity, gas, or heat that a landlord is obligated to provide under tenancy agreements.

A tenant's right to return to occupy the rental unit after extensive repairs or renovations.
Compensation
Payments that a landlord must provide to a tenant upon termination of a lease under specific conditions, such as a unit being sold or demolished.
