Present Simple (Use)
To describe present habits, permanent situations, general truths, and states.
Stative Verbs
Verbs that describe feelings or thoughts (e.g., appear, believe, want) instead of actions, and are not normally used in continuous tenses.
Used to
A structure followed by a bare infinitive used to describe habits or states in the distant past that are no longer true.
Referee
Someone whose job is to make sure that players in a game or sports match obey the rules.
Carry on
A phrasal verb meaning to continue doing something.
Give up
A phrasal verb meaning to stop doing something you do regularly.
Present Perfect Simple (Emphasis)
Often emphasizes the result of an action (e.g., 'She has written an article').
Present Perfect Continuous (Emphasis)
Focuses on the action itself and the time spent on it, rather than the result (e.g., 'She has been writing an article').
Past Perfect Simple
Used to describe actions or states that happened before a specific moment in the past.
Achieve
To succeed in doing or having something, especially after a lot of effort or hard work.
Point out
A phrasal verb meaning to tell someone important information.
The Passive (Form)
Constructed using the verb 'be' in the correct form followed by the past participle of the main verb.
Relative pronoun: Whose
Used in relative clauses to show possession (e.g., 'The man whose sister discovered a planet').
Modal: Must
Used to express obligation in written notices/instructions or a strong probability based on evidence.
Indirect Questions
A polite way of asking a question using a phrase followed by normal word order (e.g., 'Can you tell me where the bank is?').
The Causative
A structure (subject + have + object + past participle) used to show that someone arranges for someone else to do something for them.
Unless
A connective meaning 'if… not' or 'except if'.
Miserable
An adjective describing the state of being extremely unhappy.
Preserve
To take care of something in order to prevent it from being harmed or destroyed.
Ambition
Something that a person very much wants to achieve in their life or career.
