Attribution Theory

Dispositional Factors
Behavior is part of the person’s inherent traits; Internal locus of internal
Situational Factors
The person’s behavior is unique to a particular situation; External locus of control
Fundamental Attribution Error
Importance of dispositional factors are overestimated and the importance of situational factors are underestimated
Actor-Observer Bias
Tendency to attribute the behavior of others to internal causes and attributing our own behavior to external causes
Self-Fulfilling Prophecy
Expectations we have have about others can influence their behavior to external causes
False Consensus Effect
Tendency to overestimate the number of people who agree with us
Self-Serving Bias
