What are eight different types of energy?
Sound, strain, chemical, kinetic, heat, electrical, gravitational potential, light.
What type of energy is gained when you climb a ladder?
Gravitational potential.
What type of energy is stored in our food?
Chemical.
What is the law of conservation of energy?
Energy cannot be created nor destroyed, only transferred from one form to another.
What energy transfer occurs in a guitar amplifier?
Electrical to sound.
What energy transfer occurs when you light BBQ fuel?
Chemical to heat and light.
What energy transfers occur in a hydroelectric power plant?
Gravitational potential to kinetic to electrical.
Name three types of fossil fuels.
Coal, crude oil, and natural gas.
Name three types of renewable energy sources.
Solar, wind, tidal, and hydroelectric.
What is a drawback of renewable energy?
More expensive to start up.
What is a positive of renewable energy?
Do not produce greenhouse gases.
Why are fossil fuels not a good source of energy for the future?
Produce greenhouse gases and will run out within the next 50-100 years.
What are the three methods by which thermal energy can be transferred?
Convection, conduction, and radiation.
What happens to heat energy during convection?
Hot fluid rises and then cools, allowing cooler fluid to rise and be heated, warming the whole fluid.
How do radiators heat a room effectively?
By the circulation of hot air rising and cooler air falling.
Is 'radiator' a good name for a radiator?
Should be called a convector.
