Equation of the Haber Process
N2 (g)+ 3H2 (g) —> 2NH3
Catalyst used
Iron Catalyst
Why isn’t a high temperature used?
High temp will make a lower yield, because the reaction is reversible, and high temperature will favour the backwards reaction
Why isn’t a low temperature used?
Lower temperature will make a higher yield, but the reaction will be too slow
What temperature is used?
450 degrees - moderate temperature
Pressure used
200 atmospheres
balance the equilibrium
Ensure the equation goes forwards not backwards
Reaction favours the side with the fewest moles, 2:4
