Decreasing at an increasing rate
A graph where the slope is negative and becoming more negative.
Average Rate of Change
The change in the value of a function divided by the change in the independent variable.
Concave Up
A curve that opens upwards.
Concave Down
A curve that opens downwards.
Rate of Change
The rate at which a quantity is increasing or decreasing.
Vertical Asymptote
A vertical line that a graph approaches but does not cross.
Horizontal Asymptote
A horizontal line that a graph approaches as x tends to +∞ or −∞.
Hole (in a graph)
A point where a function is undefined, but could be defined to make the function continuous.
Imaginary Roots
Roots of a polynomial equation that are complex numbers with a non-zero imaginary part.
Coefficient
A number multiplied by a variable in an algebraic expression.
Zero of a Function
A value of x for which f(x) = 0.
Point of Inflection
A point on a curve at which the sign of the curvature changes.
Domain
The set of all possible input values (x-values) for a function.
Range
The set of all possible output values (y-values) for a function.
Quartic Regression
A regression model that uses a quartic (degree 4) polynomial to fit a set of data points.
