What does worship involve ?
prayer, meditation, Bible readings, singing hymns, preaching, sharing food, pilgrimage, celebrating festivals, using religious art, music or drama
Why do people worship ?
worship allows christians to praise and thank God for his blessings, to ask for forgiveness etc.
What is litrugical worship ? What does it involve ?
it’s worship that follows the same set pattern each time
a priest lead the congregation in formal prayers that have set responses
bible passages are read out, sermons
priest performs symbolic actions which have specific meaning

What are the characteristics/reasons for liturgical worship and why it’s important for Christians ?
ppl receive forgiveness for God through the action of the priest
ppl receive the living presence of Jesus in Holy Communion
the ritual has been passed down by generations, a sense pf tradition
worldwide set order of service that’s familiar to all
What is non-litrugical worship ? What does it involve ?
its worship that is informal and it doesn’t have a set order of worship
place an emphasis on the word of God in the bible
the service is usually focused on Bible readings and a sermon based on the readings

What are the characteristics/reasons for non-liturgical worship and why it’s important for Christians ?
service may have an emotional impact with a personal revelation from God
ppl can take an active part in church by praying aloud or speaking without formal training
christians can share personal interpretations of the Bible, readings follow the Christian calendar
What is informal worship ? What does it involve ?
may depend on people’s spontaneous prayers or sharing of thoughts
worship is mainly silent and ppl speak when they feel God’s spirit moving them to offer thoughts, prayers a reading from the Bible
may involve dancing, clapping, calling out, speaking in tongues
community meet to eat together and share their faith to recreate what they believe to be the worship of the early church
What is private worship ?
it allows individuals to spend time with God, either alone or with close friends or family
may involve prayer, meditation, studying or meditating on a Bible passage
