Intermolecular
Forces of attraction between molecules
Intramolecular
Bonds: ionic, covalent metallic
London dispersion force
Commonly non-polar covalent. Weakest form of imf, larger the molecule, higher the LDF
Dipole-dipole
Commonly polar covalent and ionic. Between polar molecules, permanent dipole, attraction between negative and positive ends of neighboring molecules
Hydrogen bonding
Not really bonding. FON elements, extremely electronegative
Ion-dipole
Strongest form of IMF. Happens in solutions, when ionic compounds dissociate in water. Attraction between an ion and a polar molecule
