Psychological Test
A systematic procedure that obtains samples of behavior relevant to cognitive or affective functioning, scored and evaluated according to standards.
Standardized Test
A test with uniformity of procedure and use of standards for evaluating test results.
Ability Test
Samples knowledge, skills, and cognitive functions.
Personality Test
Samples relatively stable characteristics.
Scale
A group of items that pertain to a single variable and are arranged in order of difficulty or intensity.
Thurstone Scaling
A technique for developing an interval scale where subsequent item values are at equal distances.
Likert Scaling
Items are answered on a range (e.g., 5-point scale) with typical responses like strongly disagree, disagree, neutral, agree, strongly agree.
Guttman Scaling
Each scale item has a scale value associated with it. A respondent's scale score is computed by summing the scale values of every item they agree with.
