Shoulder Width (Front)
This is taken from the tip of the right shoulder bone to the left shoulder bone.
Shoulder Width (Back)
This is taken from the tip of the left shoulder bone to the right shoulder bone.
Bust Point Width
This is taken from bust point to bust point.
Bust
This is taken around the fullest part of the bust.
Waist
This is taken around the middle part of the body just above your belly.
Hipline (First Hips)
This is taken from the waist 7-8 cm down.
Hipline (Second Hips)
This is taken from the waist 17-18 cm down.
Body Figure (Front)
This is taken from the center of the shoulder over the fullest part of the bust down to the waistline.
Body Figure (Back)
This is taken from the center of the back of the shoulder down to the waistline.
Bust Height
This is taken from the center of the shoulder to the tip of the bust.
Length of the Blouse
This is taken from the nape down to the desired length.
Armhole
This is taken from the tip of the shoulder around the circumference of the armhole.
Sleeve Length (short sleeves)
This is taken from the shoulder point down to the desired length of the sleeves.
Arm Girth
This is taken around the fullest part of the arm.
Spool pin
Holds a spool of thread.
Bobbin winder spindle
Bobbin is placed here during winding.
Bobbin winder stopper
Stops winding the bobbin when it reaches capacity.
Stitch width dial
Controls the width your stitch. It is used to create a zigzag stitch.
Pattern selector dial
Turn the pattern selector dial to set the symbol of the desired stitch pattern. On computerized machines, stitches are usually selected on a menu screen.
Hand wheel
The large knob on the right side of your machine. Manually raises and lowers the needie.
Stitch length dial
Controls the length of the stitch. Shorter stitches for finer fabrics, longer for heavier fabrics, basting and gathering.
Reverse stitch lever
The machine will sew in reverse while the lever is pushed. Depending on your machine model, this may be a button.
Power switch
The off-on switch is usually located on the right side of the machine, beneath the hand wheel.
Bobbin winder thread guide
A thread guide used when a bobbin is being wound.
Thread tension dial
Controls the tension on the top thread. lf too tight, the bobbin thread appears on the right side of the fabric. if set too loose, the needle thread loops on the underside of the fabric.
Thread take-up lever
The top thread passes through the thread take-up lever. It moves up and down with the needle.
Needle clamp screw
This clamp holds the needle in place.
Presser foot
When lowered using a lever on the back side of the machine, this foot holds fabric in place.
Bobbin cover
Covers and protects the bobbin holder while sewing.
Bobbin cover release button
Releases the cover for access to the bobbin.
Feed dog
The feed dog pulls fabric forward while sewing.
Needle
A needle pushes the thread through the fabric to form a stitch.
Needle plate
A metal plate beneath the needle and presser foot. It has an opening for the needle to pass through as it stitches, and another far the leed dogs to emerge and help move the fabric forward during sewing. Also caled a throat plate.
