Spatial Data

The process of examining the locations, attributes, and relationships of features in spatial data through overlay and other analytical techniques in order to address a question or gain useful knowledge

Clustering

The pattern observed when data points are grouped closely together, indicating high concentrations of events or features.

Nominal Scale

A term used to describe a location based on a specific name or title without exact coordinates.

Relative Location

Describing a location in relation to other known landmarks or features.

Absolute Location

The exact coordinates of a location expressed in latitude and longitude.

Euclidean Distance

The straight-line distance between two points in a Cartesian coordinate system.

Manhattan Distance

A distance calculation based on moving along grid-like paths, often used in urban navigation.

Discrete Spatial Data

Data that can be counted and represented in distinct units, such as the number of trees or school locations.

Continuous Spatial Data

Data that is represented by contours or gradients, such as elevation or temperature, and is not countable.

Dynamic Adaptable Planetary Models (DAPM)

Models designed to represent Earth in various contexts for analysis and modeling.

Layer Overlay

A technique in spatial analysis that combines multiple data layers to reveal relationships and patterns.

Map Scale

The ratio of distance on a map to the actual distance on Earth, affecting the level of detail presented.
