What is pre-rRNA?
is the precursor to mature 18S, 5.8S, and 28S ribosomal RNAs. It is processed by cleavage, trimming, and base modification.
What is snoRNA?
base-pair with complementary regions of pre-rRNA to guide cleavage and modification during rRNA maturation.
What is siRNA?
are about 22 bases long and perfectly complementary to a sequence in an mRNA. They trigger cleavage and rapid degradation of the target mRNA.
What is miRNA?
are about 22 bases long and base-pair imperfectly with mRNAs, especially through a “seed sequence.” They inhibit translation and promote mRNA degradation.
