Interphase
Group of stages in the cell cycle where the cell grows, duplicates its DNA, and prepares for mitosis.
Prophase
After the DNA replicated, the two copies are joint together at centromere
Double diploid number (4n)
X-shaped chromosomes appear
Nuclear membrane disappears
Spindle fibers form
Metaphase
Chromosomes lined up along the equator of the cell
Spindle fibres extend from the poles of the cell to the chromosomes
Anaphase
The chromosomes separate to become two independent chromatids
Spindle fibers contract and pulling the chromatids to opposite poles
Telophase
A new nuclear membrane encloses the chromosomes at each pole
The chromosomes uncoil and are no longer visible as individual strands
Cytokinesis
Division of the nucleus is complete
The cytoplasm then divides, and the result is two identical daughter cells
