Center of Gravity
The point at which ALL the weight of any object seems to be concentrated
When a meter stick is placed at its natural balance point (NBP) on a fulcrum, how could a larger weight balance a small weight?
A large weight could balance a small weight if the larger weight is closer to the fulcrum and the smaller weight is farther from the fulcrum.
Torque
A rotational (twisting) force that causes an object to rotate around an axis
Law of Torques
In a balanced system, the sum of all the torques will be zero
Natural Balance Point
The point at which all the weight of an object is located
What is the point where the force of gravity acts on an object called?
The center of gravity
How would you describe the center of an object
THe point of an object which falls along a down line passing through the center of the Earth
What direction is down
toward the center of the Earth
Write an operational definition of the center of an object using what you can observe about gravity
The center of an object is that point in the object that falls along a down line
