Eschatology
Christian teachings about the last things; God’s end for creation in terms of time and goals.
Eschatological Tension
The concept that involves the coexistence of present realities with future hopes in Christian belief, highlighting the struggle between the already and the not yet.
Already
The present tense kingdom reality that began with the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus and continues up to this present moment.
Not-yet
The future tense reality of the kingdom to come into fullness, visibility, and power.
Overly Realized Eschatology
When we act as though Gods purposes for creation have been fully realized in the present. We forfeit future hope, discounting the fullness of the kingdom.
Eschatological Reservation
Acting in the knowledge that something is always reserved for the not-yet.
Parousia
The second coming of Christ
Resurrection
Not reanimation or resuscitation. When we meet the resurrected Jesus, we meet someone who has been transformed.
General Resurrection
Like Jesus, we will be raised from the dead to new life in new creation.
Intermediate State
A life for the soul in the time between an individuals death and the day of resurrection.
Soul Sleep
The belief that the dead are like sleepers, not conscious until the resurrection day.
Premillennialism
Expects Christ to return before (pre-) the thousand years of Revelation. Premillennial theologies expect life to grow worse and worse as we draw near to the coming of Christ.
Postmillennialism
Looks for Christ's second coming after (post-) the millenium, understood as a time when Christ will reign from heaven through the power of the gospel. Postmillennial theology looks on the world with optimism, expecting things to grow better as we approach the millennium
Amillennialism
Does not see the millennium in Revelation as a future thousand years. The millennium is read as a symbolic reference to the kingdom reign of Christ, a reign that is both already and not yet.
Hell
The end for those who would finally refuse God’s living offer of salvation.
Universalism
All will finally be saved.
Postmortem Evangelism
An invitation to say yes to Jesus after one has died.
Annihilationism
The proposal that hell is not everlasting but will finally wither away to nothing.
Purgatory
A postmortem space in which God purges all that remains of sin for those who have died in Christ but are not yet holy.

Sex deformed by sin, contrary to God’s good intentions. sin against fidelity.

The three goods of sex
Fidelity: Sex is for others
Fruitfulness: Sex points us toward kingdom work
Relationship to God: Good sex points both spouses toward God. Sex is for God.
Redeemed Desire
Sex that lies => Sex that tells the truth
Selfish => sex that is for others
Shame => unashamed nakedness -trust
Blame -shifting => responsible
Exploitative => egalitarian, mutual, reciprocal
unstable => faithful
Purity Paradigm “rules”
Marriage is the expected reward for following the rules
Purity is a matter of gritting ones teeth and working hard to avoid sexual intercourse before marriage in order to preserve the value of ones body.
Purity matters more for females than males
Physical virginity constitutes purity
Libertine
Concludes that because bodies don’t matter we can do whatever we want with them.
Ascetic
Concludes that because bodies are a problem we should deny and denigrate them.
