Organelles
Structures within a cell that perform specific functions.
Cytoplasm
Jelly-like material in the cell where organelles are suspended.
Nucleus
The control center of the cell that contains genetic material.
Plasma Membrane
Also known as the cell membrane, it regulates what enters and exits the cell.
Semipermeable
A property of the plasma membrane that allows only specific materials to enter or exit.
Phospholipid Bilayer
Structure of the plasma membrane composed of two layers of phospholipids.
Mitochondria
Organelles responsible for energy production in the cell.
Chloroplasts
Organelles found in plant cells that conduct photosynthesis.
Vacuoles
Storage organelles that hold various substances.
Ribosome
Molecular machines in the cell responsible for protein synthesis.
Lysosomes
Organelles that contain digestive enzymes to break down waste.
Golgi Body
The organelle involved in modifying, sorting, and packaging proteins.
Cytoplasmic Streaming
The movement of the cytoplasm within plant cells that can help distribute materials.
