Zoo veterinarians treat usually much larger, exotic animals. They are both responsible for treating illnesses and injuries of animals. They perform physical exams, give examinations, giving vaccines, taking blood work, administering and prescribing medication. Zoo veterinarians see their patients more frequently than domestic veterinarians

What role do zoo veterinarians play in conservation?

They help save many species and help us understand the consequences of animal diseases to human communities. They also help ecosystems stay functional

What are types of preventative measures taken in zoos to prevent disease?

New animals are quarantined, parasite control, vaccines, post mortem examination, pest control, nutritional considerations

Importance: Gives the animals a creative outlet for physical activity and mental exercise, as well as the ability to choose how they spend their time

Examples: Puzzles feeders, climbing structures, frozen treats, interaction with zoo keepers, plastic toys, bowling balls

Cares for animals, plan diets, feeds animals, monitors animal eating patterns, cleans animal enclosures, monitor animal behavior, watch for signs of illness or injury

Responsible for prescribing and giving medications, diagnose and treat illness or injury, perform physical exams, giving vaccines
