• Reported as average/10 HPF

• Clinical significance: pyuria and indicated inflammation or infection, “glitter cells”

Squamous Cells

• Normal

• Can be reported either LPF or HPF

• Clinical significance: Clue cell

Transitional Epithelial Cells

• Identified on HPF

• Clinical Significance: in increase numbers can be because of malignancy

Renal Tubular Epithelial Cells

• Identified on HPF

• Most clinical significant

Oval Fat Bodies

• RTE cells that have absorbed lipids

• Very Refratile

• Confirmed with Sudan III/ Oil Red O

• Identified on HPF

Bacteria

• Could be contamination

• Semi-quantitatively on high power

• May demonstrate motility

• Clinical Significance: UTI

Yeast

• Semi-quantitated on high power

• Small, refractile structures
