virus is activated intermittently, recurrent manifestation (ex. Feline viral rhinotracheitis/herpes virus) → infection is never cleared

Chronic

virus that can’t be eradicated by immune system, causes insistent disease

Inapparent

unrecognized source for virus spread, reservoir host, low infectious dose, low virulence, host resistance (ex. Malignant catarrhal fever in wildebeest)

Congenital

during pregnancy, virus transferred to fetus during viremic phase (ex. Hog cholera, bovine virus diarrhea/BVD, feline panleukopenia)

Oncogenic

insert genome into host DNA after the anti-viral mechanism of DNA → virus replicates and causes cancer development
