Era

a period marked by distinctive character or reckoned from a fixed point or event

Primary Source

materials that were created at the time the event occurred or materials created by those who experienced the event.

Secondary Source

materials that were created after the event, that do not come from the time period.

Sourcing

the process by which a historian analyzes/investigates/asks questions about the author of the document.

Corroborating

the process by which a historian compares multiple documents to determine points of agreement and disagreement, in order to confirm the validity of the content.

Euro-centrism

the belief that history should be told from the POV of Europeans

Ethnocentrism

belief in the superiority of one's own ethnic group

Myth

a traditional story accepted as history; serves to explain the world view of a people (typically false)

Imperialism

a policy of extending your rule over foreign countries

Genocide

systematic killing of a racial or cultural group

a group of people that originated in what is now The Bahamas. First encountered with Christopher Colombus.

Half-Truth

a partially true statement intended to deceive or mislead

Fact

a true statement/something proven to be true

Herofication

process of turning a person into a hero

Justification

a statement in explanation of some action or belief

Historical interpretation

The way a historian decides to interpret certain topics. This is based on their bias/history/experiences/social connections, etc.

Racism

the prejudice that members of one race are intrinsically superior to members of other races
