Titration
A technique where a solution of known concentration is used to determine the concentration of an unknown solution.
NaOH
Sodium hydroxide, a strong base whose concentration is being determined in this experiment.
HCl
Hydrochloric acid, the standardized acid solution used to titrate the NaOH.
Buret
A piece of lab equipment used to accurately dispense variable amounts of a solution in a titration.
Erlenmeyer flask
A type of laboratory flask with a flat bottom, a conical body, and a cylindrical neck, used to hold the solution being titrated.
Phenolphthalein
A chemical indicator used in titrations that changes color (typically from pink to colorless) to signal the endpoint.
Molarity (mol/L)
A unit of concentration, defined as the number of moles of solute per liter of solution.
Endpoint
The point in a titration where the indicator changes color, signaling that the reaction is complete.
Volumetric Material
Laboratory glassware, such as burets and pipettes, that are calibrated to accurately measure specific volumes of liquids.
Maatkolf
Volumetric flask used to prepare solutions of known volume and concentration.
