Are you with the VA?
No — the VA isn't a life insurance company. I'm the contracted medical underwriter who compares all 26 partnered carriers for veterans.
7
New cards
VA covers my burial for free.
They only cover the plot and headstone. Your family still pays for the service, viewing, and burial/cremation unless 100% disabled.
8
New cards
I don't remember filling this out.
Most vets fill it out for 3 reasons: cover funeral costs, avoid leaving debt, or leave something behind for family.
9
New cards
I'm not interested.
No problem — do you already have your funeral expenses taken care of, or not yet?
10
New cards
You're the 10th person who called.
I understand — but it doesn't look like anyone from our office called. Probably a telemarketer.
11
New cards
I already have coverage.
Perfect. Did you get it recently or years ago?
12
New cards
I have coverage — recent.
What are they charging you? That sounds higher than normal.
13
New cards
I have coverage — years ago.
Do you remember if it was around $15k or $20k? Checking for inflation gaps.
14
New cards
Bad time / I'm busy.
All good — I'll make it quick. Your DOB is ___, right? (If driving/working: reschedule.)
15
New cards
Can you send it in the mail? (Intro)
That's what this process is for — we pick the right plan, then ship it out.
16
New cards
Just show me the numbers.
There are 30 options — my job is to find the lowest one that fits you.
17
New cards
Can you send it in the mail? (Numbers)
Absolutely — after approval, it ships in 7-12 days and you get an e-copy in 24 hours.
18
New cards
I'm just shopping around.
Totally get it — the veteran program already shops all 26 carriers for you. Today is just about getting you approved.
19
New cards
I need to think about it.
Of course — are you deciding which option, or whether to get coverage at all?
20
New cards
Think about it — whether to get coverage.
You said you don't have savings or a policy, right? And you don't want your family stuck with the bill, right? So it's really about which option fits best.
21
New cards
Think about it — which option.
Most vets start with the lowest option to lock in the rate, get approval, and have something in place immediately.
22
New cards
Pushback: still unsure.
You're paying for it, right? It's for your family, right? And you wouldn't get less than the lowest option anyway, right?
23
New cards
Final pushback line.
If your wife said, "Don't get coverage, let me pay the funeral bill," would you actually skip it?
24
New cards
I need to talk to my wife.
Of course — will you two be deciding which option, or whether to get coverage at all?
25
New cards
Wife — whether to get coverage.
You said you don't have coverage or savings for that expense, right? And you don't want her stuck with that, right? So it's really just picking the right option.
26
New cards
Wife — which option.
Most vets start with the lowest option to lock in the rate, get the approval, and have something in place now.
27
New cards
Wife pushback #1.
You're paying for it, right? It's to protect her, right? And you won't pick less than the lowest option, right?
28
New cards
Wife pushback #2.
If she said "Don't get coverage, let me pay for your funeral," would you actually not get it?
