3 Na+ bind to the pump from inside of the cell, remove a P group and ATP --> ADP

step 1

P group attaches to pump causing pump to change shape and 3 Na+ are ejected out of the cell.

step 2

2K+ bind from outside the cell to pump

step 3

P group detaches from pump, 2K+ released into cell
