Auxiliary Water System
Water systems that include used water or water from a source other than the public water system, such as wells, cisterns or open reservoirs that are equipped with pumps or other prime movers, including gravity.
Backflow
The unintentional reversal of the normal direction of flow in a potable water system that may result in the pollution or contamination of the system by a liquid, gas, solids, or mixtures.
Backflow Prevention Device
Any device, method, or type of construction that is used to prevent a backflow condition into a potable water system.
Backpressure Backflow
A reversal of the normal direction of flow in a water system due to an increase in downstream pressure above that of the supply pressure.
