It fights infections by engulfing pathogens

What are the main specialisations and features of neutrophils?

• Has a multi-lobed nucleus - allows easier movements through tissues (can fit through tight gaps)

• Have granules containing enzymes - helps to digest bacteria

• Phagocytic - engulfs and destroys pathogens

• Has a flexible cell membrane - allows neutrophils to exit capillaries and enter infected tissues

What is the function of a lymphocyte?

To regulate the immune system, through antibody productions and destroying infected/cancerous cells

What are the main specialisations and features of lymphocytes?

• Has a large nucleus - allows for extensive genetic material to produce antibodies

• Has memory cells - Provide long-term immunity

What type of cells do lymphocytes have?

T and B cells

What do T cells do?

• T cells send signals to B cells

• T cells destroy infected/cancerous cells

What do B cells do?

• B cells produce antibodies

• B cell proliferation - some of which make antibodies and some become memory cells
