Classical Conditioning
A form of learning in which a neutral stimulus evokes a response when paired with an unconditioned stimulus.
Neutral Stimulus
A stimulus that initially does not elicit a response until it is paired with an unconditioned stimulus.
Conditioned Stimulus
A previously neutral stimulus that, after being paired with an unconditioned stimulus, evokes a conditioned response.
Anterograde Amnesia
The inability to form new memories after the onset of amnesia.
Retrograde Amnesia
The inability to retrieve old memories prior to the onset of amnesia.
Flashbulb Memories
Highly detailed and vivid memories of emotionally significant events.
Psychological Suggestibility
The brain's tendency to create false memories or narratives based on suggestion.
State-dependent Memory
The improved recall of specific episodes or information when the individual is in the same state of consciousness as when the memory was formed.
Sensory Memory
The brief retention of sensory information, including iconic (visual) and echoic (auditory) memories.
Long-term Memory
The lasting storage of information that has no apparent capacity limits.
