Every light creates shadows, they don’t go away, adding light fills them in

What is subtractive color mixing?

Putting a gel in front of an instrument, removing all frequencies except that color’s frequency

What is additive color mixing?

When 2 lights of different colors strike and object and create a mixed color on the subject

What is DMX?

The digital or binary language that the control board communicates with the lights and other channels

What is a DMX universe?

A 512 channel that house the controllable parameters in lights

What is a parameter in a light fixture?

1 controllable feature in a light that

What is a starting address?

Tells the board where to start in the DMX channels in setting up all the parameters with the DMX

When might cues be written?

For focus, punctuation, mood change, tempo, ect

When might a hard edge of light be wanted?

Spotlights, gobos, specials, ect

When might a soft edge of light be wanted?

Color wash, blending, area lights, ect

Can a gobo be used in soft or hard focus?

It can be used in both hard and soft focus

What does patching do?

Allows a designer to arrange the chnanels in an orderly way

What is double purchase?

A rope or cable that passes from a pulley or lifting device over a block, to a block attached to the load, and tied off at the previous block - allows for twice as much load to be raised for a given effort, but the rope also has to be pulled twice as far to compensate

What is the difference between a single purchase and a double purchase?

A single purchase would just be a person pulling down on a rope attached to a load, while a double purchase would be a a person pulling down on a rope attached to a pulley attached to another block that is then attached to the load allowing for less effort in order to raise the load

What is a Drop Point?

Riggers will drop liens from the ceiling or rafters to ensure they have the proper “tie in” points for the Rig
